Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia aren't expensive - there are numerous beach and hill resorts which may be romantic. For Jan, just make sure the location is not experiencing the monsoon period (year end Dec - Feb); for instance Club Med Cherating, Malaysia East Coast is closed because of the monsoon.

Northern Thailand is chilly and cool at the end of the year; they've got romantic hill resorts there.

You might want to visit the Philippines. It has a diverse culture being a former Spanish, American and Japanese colony. It was also briefly occupied by the British. The majority of the people are Christians which is rare in the region. There are also muslims and other religions in the country. There are a number of natural tourist destinations you can visit in the Philippines, the most famous would be the beaches of Boracay island with its powdery and white sand. There are a lot more beaches here but Boracay is the most developed having 5 star hotel-resorts such as Shangri-La. Palawan is also a must see especially the Puerto Princesa Underground River which is one of the nominees is the new 7 wonders of nature. If you want a marine experience, the Philippines is a must being dubbed as having the most biodiversed marine life. You can visit Tubbataha reef, an amazing experience! If you want shopping, there is Manila, the capital. It boasts of three of the world's largest malls namely SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, and SM Mall of Asia. There are more malls to see from high end to low end. Prices are cheap especially in night markets in Divisoria still in Manila. You can get most out of your money in the country having a very low cost of living. You can even have a full meal with less than a dollar. (The conversion is US$1 = Php47.) Every citizen of the Philippines also SPEAKS ENGLISH even the poorest ones so there is no trouble in communicating.

Thailand is certainly the cheapest place in Asia to get your PADI Open Water certification. The Similan Islands are one of the world's best dive destinations and you can do a liveaboard boat trip there for 4 days, including your Open Water course, for around $500 - see www.phuket-diving-safaris.com as an example of a liveaboard operator

Phuket is not "tsunami-stricken" - the tsunami was nearly 2 years ago and you'll find very little evidence of it ever having happened if you come to Thailand as a tourist. Phuket tends to be one of the more expensive areas in Thailand for tourists because it's so well known - nearby islands like Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi are cheaper and much more beautiful, I think. You can do Open Water courses there too, doing daytrips over a couple of days to get your certifying dives. Check out godive-lanta.com on Lanta - they are a great bunch of guys, I've dived with them several times.

As a certified scuba instructor myself, I'd advise you don't rush your time for diving - most likely once you've done the course you'll be hooked, so schedule several more days for doing fun dives once you've qualified!

Wow. Good question! I have been teaching in Prague for the past year and I love it. It is a really fun career choice. When you are looking at the average salaries, make sure to compare it with the cost of living in that particular country. For example here in Prague the cost of living is really low - so the salaries seem low...but I make good money.

First of all, you should know that in order to teach EFL in any Asian country, you will need a TEFL Certificate. The schools there will require a BA, and a TEFL Certificate in order to even consider you as an applicant. If you do not already have yours, I recommend going to my Alma Mater....TEFL Worldwide Prague. It rocks. I loved it! ;)

So... if it's good nightlife and good money you are after, then I suggest going to So. Korea. You will probably be set up with an apartment and a good salary that will allow you to save quite a bit of money. A friend of mine is teaching there right now and says it is really fun - good clubs and nice people.

Japan is also a good place to save money, and has tons of job offers. Getting a job there in a big city would be easy. But again, they will require TEFL cert and a BA.

Good Luck!

Vietnam toursim, the low cost tourism you should look for. Thailand nice place to vsit though much more expensive than a nice trip to Vietnam. Many former royal's foods and so many places to expand your sight and knowledge.

Cambodia: nice kingdom country with a very low cost.

Laos also costs low cost tourism to visit.

Don't mind about China, it is pretty suck with highly dense pollutions. I can't trust a country such China.

Bali Bali Bali. the very best place in the world
Bali is the most beautiful and unique of the Asian countrys. Great beachs, mountains, I swear... you are driving along and you turn a corner and you just can't believe it.. Terraced bright green rice paddies, huge volcanos, islands off the coast. beautiful jungles and you just can't beat the shopping. Amazing club scene. good food and a whole bunch of little hide out spots that you could spend the rest of your life in. You have to check it out. You will never regret it.
